Not to Santiago - About the author

Born in Amsterdam and grew up in Schiedam (near Rotterdam). Studied in Hengelo (O.) and in Wageningen. Chemistry and Forestry. Always more fascinated by nature and related processes. Evolution. Certainly evolution of mankind. And so history thus. More than in ordinary technology. Certainly more than in business.

After final graduation in 1984, worked directly in automation. After having worked for four companies and gone from one reorganisation to another, started working for himself in 2000 as a project manager. In the downturn of the economy and the turbulent, and excessively aggressive world of ICT, with varying degrees of success. The decision, at the end of 2002, to walk through Western Europe was mainly triggered by the huge changes in the economy - and, more specifically, in the world of ICT - post 2000. Triggered by the consequences of the second industrial revolution.

The decision to write a book as well was provoked by the world of today with its speed and individualism, Mr Bush and his war in Iraq, the formation of Europe and its Constitution and the revival of religious activity. As an exercise for the memory. A documentation of the journey as well as a documentation of the relationship of the journey to history and the relationship of history with to the modern world.
