Please note that the English translations on this site have been produced by Derek Stubbs who kindly agreed to help me with this. Not to Santiago and back again does not exist in English. However, after I discussed it with Derek, he became interested and has worked with me on translating some extracts which can be read here in the English section of this site. However, translating a book of this size requires somebody who is fluent in both languages. If you are interested in translating the whole book - e.g. for reasons of study or because you are interested in the subject - please contact me and we can discuss possibilities. The list of contents gives a good idea of the structure of the book. The First Voyage contains the description of the actual physical journey. Within the First Voyage there are Intermezzos in which the history relating to a particular location is described. In Domremy-la-Pucelle, for example, the history of Jeanne d'Arc and the Hundred Years' War is described. The Second Voyage contains the journey through the history of Western Europe [usually as seen from France]. This covers the period from year zero of the Christian Era to the present, with the emphasis on the struggle for power between church and state. The short Third Voyage contains the return journey to the Netherlands. To get an impression of the book, you can read the extracts which are published here. To be clear: the book contains a description of an actual journey but it is not a conventional account in the tradition of the Saint James pilgrimage. |
